Mom's Morning moved to Wednesdays

Due to schedule conflicts (being a long time Saco resident, Nanci has opted to teach the Saco / Old Orchard Beach Surf Camps herself), Mom’s Morning will we held on Wednesdays from 11 to 12:30. If you need a wetsuit, show up at the shop between 10:30 (not earlier, please) and 10:45 (not later either!) for your wetsuit fitting (time is tight, and you really need to get the first part of the beach lesson). This is a free program and due to immense popularity one session a summer is all you get, unless you have your own gear. This is a great opportunity to try surfing, get help with your skills and familiarity with your own board, or to just surf with the “girls” (guys can come if they can cope with all that estrogen).

Calling all volunteers!
This summer, "Autistic/Aspergers" Night will be Tuesdays, July 22nd and August 19th from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. We will need Surfers to share the stoke with these great kids. Last year we had 23 kids and it was an absolute BLAST. These are kids and young adults who are Autistic or have Aspergers Syndrome. They are fun and love the water (and they LOVE wetsuits).A

Our rep will be in Kennebunk for demos showing the board models and paddling techniques. You'll be surprised how easy they are to ride and how HARD of a workout they are. It's like the "workout concentrate". I've been going out a few times a week, and I've been sore from my toes to my hair follicles since I started! I guess I'll eventually get in shape (I thought I WAS kind of in shape.) This is the latest training tool for many professional athletes.

Hi everyone.
Well, the surf has been great and summer is blowing us kisses nearly every day. The weather has been great, and the beach has been beautiful. We’ve been playing Doubles Volleyball at Old Orchard for about a month, a few times in our swimsuits! We had surf every day last week, and everyone in the water got their fill. It was consistent and fun.
Witch's Rock -- AGAIN

Well, it's Wednesday and Evan (Mr. Potato Head) Flaherty and Jeremy (Jerry you're so funny) Riordan left for Liberia at 10:00 this morning after a fantastic early surf at Little Hawaii. It was our second surf there, the first being on a small day last week. Today was head and a half high and clean as a whistle. We got up at 4:30 and (once Jerry got his bag together) we headed to check Negra and Avellanas. While we walked to Little Hawaii Jerry could have tripped over Lola while she slept on the beach. Lola is the 725-pound pig that the bar/restaurant at Avellanas Beach is named for. She's been there for years and she's been on a "diet". She actually seems to have lost a few pounds. Maybe that's why she's cranky these days. It was just we three for the first hour and we got a few nice waves before anyone else showed up. Little Hawaii is nice because it's so far down the beach and around the bend that it's hard to see if it's actually working and it's a pretty long walk. The walk keeps the lazy surfers from getting beyond Avellanas Rivermouth. A few more guys showed up, notably the chubby blonde wave hog with the blue mini mal. The guy's a nuisance. (Mark and Ellie, you remember him from Marbella?) I think he's following me.
Semana Santa

This is probably my last post from Costa Rica. I'll be posting a ton of pictures from my trip once I get back to the States. Stay tuned...
It's "Semana Santa" (Holy Week, Easter). All the Ticos (Costa Ricans) get Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, or they are paid double at their jobs if they have to work. Millions of people from the cities head for the beaches and tourist spots. If you plan a trip here, AVOID Semana Santa.
Evan Flaherty and Jeremy Riordan are here. They arrived Wednesday evening in time for a quick surf at Negra. It was sketchy though, as it was low tide, and getting dark. Those rocks get creepy at dusk.
